Frequently Asked Questions
Will everything I tell you be kept confidential?
The content of our Therapy sessions will normally remain totally confidential. The possible exception to this would be if I am concerned that you may seriously harm yourself or someone else, or if I am required by law to make a disclosure.
I do have regular Supervision – as must all Registered Psychotherapists – and I may discuss our work there. If so you would only be identified by your first name, and the Supervision environment is bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the Therapy room.
How long will I need to come for?
The length of time Therapy takes depends on a number of factors; including the nature of the issues you are bringing, what you are wanting to achieve, and how motivated you are to make those changes.
After an initial consultation I may be able to give you an estimate of the length of time you might expect to be in therapy, and thereafter I encourage regular reviews and feedback to ensure you are getting what you need from our time together.
Can I come fortnightly rather than weekly?
I normally work weekly with clients because in my clinical experience fortnightly sessions do not provide the ‘containment’ and continuity necessary to effectively work though issues. In some situations I may even recommend that a client attends more than once a week. Fortnightly sessions may be appropriate later on in Therapy when our focus is more on consolidation of positive changes that have taken place.
Counselling and Psychotherapy practice based in Kilndown, near Goudhurst, in West Kent.
